My father has scheduled me to deliver a talk at the Mary Our Queen Men’s Club meeting tonight.
When I agreed to give the talk, I knew that I was scheduled to be on furlough from work during the week, so I figured I’d have plenty of time to come up with some talking points about the news business.
But, as I sit in front of my computer today, I’m having a serious case of writer’s block. Ironically, at work I can write about topics fairly quickly and efficiently. But when it comes to something that is about me, or my business, I tend to struggle a little bit.
I know that I do not want to give a talk about the daily life of a news reporter or producer. I’d rather focus on the trends that are effecting the news business and what the future of news might look like.
Lately, I’ve been reading a lot about Google. I’m working on two books right now: What Would Google Do? and Planet Google.
Both books offer some very interesting insights into one of the most powerful companies in the World, a company that is single-handedly redefining the economy.
Since I have struggling to find my starting point, I figured that I might as well start here, with the What Would Google Do? Power Point presentation that author Jeff Jarvis has so graciously made available on his blog.
