Karyn Greer took a few moments during Thursday morning’s show to recognize Assignment Desk Editor Gary Franklin for his contributions to the station and the Atlanta broadcasting industry.
Gary has been working in the broadcasting industry since he was 16-years-old. This year marks his 50th year in the business.
Over the past several months, I have had the opportunity to work the early morning shift. That means I’ve had the pleasure of working with Gary, who works the overnight.
You know Gary’s behind the desk when the only thing you can hear over the static of the police and fire department scanners is his booming voice conversing with some poor dispatcher on the phone.
Gary is a master scanner hawk, perfect for the overnight shift. Referring to himself only as “Franklin” he has a way of getting the most important information out of PIOs in the shortest amount of time possible, before slamming the phone back on the reciever.
Gary is a true pleasure to work with. It is a great honor to be exposed to his experience and insight.
