Wellford, South Carolina is a small town, but you may have heard of it.

The Mayor of Wellford recently decried that the police officers of her city were no longer permitted to chase suspects on foot.

WSPA reporter Chris Cato discovered the Mayor’s order and was able to get a few moments of her time to discuss it with her in this fascinating interview.

In case you missed it, here’s the article.

“Wellford Mayor Sallie Peake said Monday she issued the order in August after the city had to pay for an officer who missed work after chasing a ‘guy who had a piece of crack on him.’ She said a drug possession charge was not worth the cost to taxpayers. But her written order said she did ‘not want anyone chasing any suspects whatsoever.’”

Apparently the Mayor has since rescinded the order, but still believes police in her town should not be involved in chases of any kind.

(A special thanks to Bruce for sharing this video on Facebook.)
